This classic lodge trek starts with a long climb and descends to the world\'s deepest gorge, on the Kali Gandaki River, going all the way from rhododendron forests to the beginning of the Tibetan plateau.. This trek also offers you a chance to encounter unique cultural people who practice their ancient traditions even today. It\'s also among the tamest areas, with excellent lodges lining the main routes. The deep valleys and high mountains encircling the giant Annapurna Himal embrace a wide range of peoples and terrain, from subtropical jungle to a high, dry landscape resembling the Tibetan Plateau.
The trip starts just north of the city of Pokhara and winds through the Poon Hill area and then passes the Dhaulagiri icefall giving you a prime view of all the mountains. After reaching Jomsom the trek heads up to Muktinath, an important pilgrimage place for Buddhists and Hindu\'s which lies on the Tibetan border.
